Ceres Roman Goddess of Agriculture

Ceres is the Earth goddess and the goddess of corn. She carries the cornucopia, a horn filled with fruits and veggies. Her child was Proserpine.

Pluto became adoringly obsessed with Proserpine, and transported her off to the Underworld. Ceres looked everywhere, but could not find her.

Ultimately Ceres refused to let the vegetation grow on earth anymore, and everybody begun to die of hunger.

So Pluto confessed he had Proserpine, but stated she could merely return home if she had to eat 3 pomegranate seeds. Therefore she had to return to the underworld 3 months a year... hence our winter.
