Vesta Roman Goddess Of The Hearth

Vesta is the goddess of the hearth, the center of the Roman household.

She is a quiet well behaved empress, who did not join in the quarrels and spats of the other gods.

She is a defender of the sacred flame, that is designed to have been delivered from Troy to Rome by the hero Aeneus.

The fire was relit each and every March 1st and had to be kept ignited all year long.

If this fire ever ran out, disaster will fall on Rome.

The fire was kept alive through the Vestal Virgins.
